Es un conjunto musical de Indie pop-avant-garde australiano, proveniente de los suburbios de Norticote, en Melbourne. La mayoría de sus miembros pueden tocar múltiples instrumentos. La música de Architecture in Helsinki se caracteriza por una gran variedad de sonidos, obtenidos a través de medios electrónicos y por la experimentación con gran cantidad de instrumentos, incluyendo instrumentos de viento-metal, flautas, sintetizadores analógicos[ samplers, un glockenspiel (también conocido com Lira), una tuba, un clarinete, un trombón, trompetas e instrumentos más frecuentes como batería, guitarra y bajo.
